Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Status: RO Welcome to 3d-ui mailing list! ------------------------------- After some technical glitches a mailing list devoted to discussion of 3D user interfaces and interactions has been set up. This is how to use it: * to send a message to the list, send e-mail to mailto:3d-ui@hitl.washington.edu * to add/remove somebody or (yourself) to/from the list, send an e-mail either to me (Ivan Poupyrev) at mailto:poup@hitl.washington.edu or Doug Bowman at mailto:bowman@cc.gatech.edu Right now we add people by hand, so it might take some time (no longer then a day) to add new person. I think it would be nice if people who join the list write a few lines about their research interests and topics which they think are important in 3D user interfaces R&D These are some of the issues relating to the list, let me know what you think about them: * Who is on the list right now? Doug Bowman, Mark Mine, Jeff Pierce, Matt Conway and me, in other words everybody who responded to me or Doug during the last week is on the list ... I am forwarding this message to those folks who have not responded yet, and if you would like to join, please let me or Doug know, and we will add you right away. Do you think we should get more people? Whom else should we invite? * Why 3d-ui? Initially we were planning to devote the list only to discussion of 3D manipulation, but after reading responses from you, it seems inevitable that we move into more general 3D UI issues including navigation, software tools, applications and etc. Hence the name of the list is 3d-ui, reflecting the fact it will be concerned with all issues related to 3D user interfaces. We can change name later if we want to... * What do we want to get from the list? Discussions of course first, but also I believe that it would be great to have some sort of place where one can get an opinion of those who has real experience with building and researching 3D ui. It would be good to have place where I can turn if I have a question, an idea, information which can be of interest for others, if I am looking for reference or want to know opinion of others. So in some sense this list can provide a starting point for building community for 3D UI folks. Things to do: 1. WWW site. I was slacking on this, but I will try to get it up and running during this week. Take in account that there is a Golden Week here in Japan now, which means that nobody works for a week! Anyway, I will set up skeleton of the Web site and will mail URL to the list. 2. Again, should we get more people? 3. Anything else?
