Sunday, January 18th 2004 Me, Unplugged

I was born in the garden city of India, Bangalore in Karnataka. Now that you are here because you stumbled upon here or you were coaxed into coming to this page you will get to know more about me.

Travelling has been one of my greatest passions. May be since my dad works for the Indian Railways, I got a lot of opportunity to travel from the time I was a kid. I think I have easily travelled the length and breath of India, Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from the North East to the forts of Rajasthan. Travelling, and living in different parts of India has taught me a lot of things. Most importantly is to make friends. Ofcourse I have learnt about the different cultures that make up our India. I feel this has been very important in molding me into who I am today.

Apart from travelling my other passion is sports. Badminton is one sport which I love the most. Probably because this is the sport in which I was most successful. I also play decent volley-ball, field hockey, cricket, soccer. Apart from playing I am also game anyday to see good match-up in cricket, tennis, American football, field hockey and ofcourse F-1 racing.

Power of imagination is a real great strength in humans. Well, imagination leads to a lot of interesting things. Its because of this power that we have great writers, musicians, scientists and list continues. While we are at it let me tell you the other thing that I like to do, read. Though off late havent been much into reading. I normally like to read thrillers, science fiction and ocassionally classics. I like reading works by Frederick Forsyth, Mario Puzo, Alister McLean, John Grisham, Robert Ludlum, and many others. Listenning to music is something anyone and everyone does in some form or the other everyday. I like rock music a lot, not the crash bang kind. I normally like listen to movie songs in Hindi and Tamil. I like listening to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, Beatles, Eagles, Abba, and many more, basically music that captures my interest.

Enough of what I like doing, let me tell you a little bit about people around whom my life has revolved all this while. Well my family is consists of my mom, dad and my elder brother. I always competed with my brother in every way I could think off. Competetion is good or bad I dont know, but my brother and I are very close. He lives in Hillsboro, Oregon and is a chip designer with Maxim Integerated Products. My mom is the one who is, if not solely, but surely is greatly responsible for what I am today, ofcourse how can I forget my dad. My dad hardly ever said no to most of my demands when I was a kid, spoilt brat is what comes to mind first. On the whole for what I am today my parents are the one who are mostly responsible for, and I couldnt never done many things without my brothers help either.

I have done my schooling may be not all over India but in a quite a few if not many schools. I started my kindergarten in Delhi, then studied for a few years in Madras (now Chennai), and ofcourse Calcutta (now Kolkata) and then back to Chennai (then Madras). In my entire schooling history, I think I had most fun were the last two years of school. I did my 11th and 12th or Junior and Senior year of High school in Padma Sheshadri Bala Bhavan, Nungambakkam, Chennai. Made many good friends all through. It is probably because it was when I was in this school that I got into my dream engineering school, the MIT and Berkeley of India, yes I am talking about the Indian Institutes of Technology, that I like this school over the others. I studied in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur (KGP). I did my 5 year Integerated MSc in Mathematics and Computing in IIT Kgp.

Life at IIT Kgp was probaly the best part of my life till date. I spent five best years of my life there. The first year I was in J.C.Bose Hall of Residence, but the next 4 years I was in Patel Hall of Residence, it was indeed "The Hall" of all the Halls. Patel Hall was probably most famous (infamous as many would say) of all the halls, probably because of our traditions. I had a great time with not just my wing-mates but also with my department-mates and given an oppurtunity I would love to go back to have the fun that I had then. I also had fun playing for my hall. I represented my hall in badminton, hockey and volleyball. I have also represented IIT Kgp in badminton at the Inter IIT sports meet. I am really happy that I could contribute to the sports GC that we won in my last and final year at IIT.
