Real estate degree program receives final approval from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia
The degree will transcend traditional college boundaries as a comprehensive, interdisciplinary academic program that will be a partnership amoung six colleges at the university. Student can enroll in the program for fall 2013.

Sanjay Raman named associate vice president, National Capital Region
Sanjay Raman will be responsible for planning and executing region-wide initiatives to enhance the university's research, education, and outreach missions. This new position supports the goal outlined in the National Capital Region Strategic Plan to develop programs in research and innovation that will link all Virginia Tech campuses to the nation and to the world.

Engineer secures award to detect vulnerabilities in concurrent software
Chao Wang, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Virginia Tech, has received a three-year Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program grant for up to $510,000 to develop methods and software tools that can detect security vulnerabilities in concurrent software that runs on a modern multi-core computer.

Luke F. Lester, who currently holds an endowed professorship of electrical and computer engineering at the University of New Mexico, has been named the head of the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering effective Aug. 10, 2013.

Mary Miller, founder and president of Interactive Design and Development, of Blacksburg, Va., is the Virginia Tech College of Engineering Distinguished Alumna for 2013. She earned her master's degree in 1985 in computer science, part of the College of Engineering
