John C. Linford

I am Ph.D candidate in the Computational Science Laboratory in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Polytechnic and State University and an NDSEG fellow. My dissertation research concerns heterogeneous high-performance computing applied to large-scale multiphysics models, such as weather prediction, air quality, and computational fluid dynamics. Visit the menu links to see my publications and research projects.

I am a real-time systems programmer for Northrup Grumman Electronic Systems in Baltimore.  I write large scale, portable, high performance signal processing applications targeting the Cell Broadband Engine Architecture, GPGPU, and other multi-core chipsets.

I am a triathlete. I have been a member of the Virginia Tech Triathlon Team since 2005 and competed in the 2007 and 2008 USA national championships. I have done twenty-five triathlons, four half-marathons, and two Marine Corps Marathons.

I am a German-speaker. I spent the summer of 2007 at Forschungszentrum Jülich, in Jülich Germany on a CESRI fellowship.  Summer 2008 I returned as a guest researcher.  Both summers were spent working on the Scalasca project.

I love music by Rachmaninoff, books by C.S. Lewis, toys made by Lego, and the Silence of the Lambs.

I am but a humble mushroom.

I have a resume, a curriculum vitae, a travel blog, a Facebook Page, and an e-mail.
