Research Interests:

Over the years I have dabbled in a variety of research areas:

My current research is in efficient parallel systems for high-performance computing under the advisement of Dr.Wu-chun Feng and Dr. Eli Tilevich as part of the Systems, Networking, and Renaissance Grokking (SyNeRGy) team in the Computer Science Department at Virginia Tech.

Contributions**:

** I don't believe in the "publish or perish" philosophy but rather the "contribute constructively" philosophy. If I can contribute to society without publishing, that is fine with me. For this reason, making significant contributions to these projects and publications is important. Of course, it's nice to be an author of a publication too. :-)

Non-geeky Interests:

  • Sports
    • Snowboarding
      • My first time riding was August, 1999, at Mt. Hutt in New Zealand. Since then, I have ridden in Lake Tahoe, the French Alps, the Swiss Alps, British Columbia, the Southern Rockies, the Northern Rockies, and the Wasatch Range. I look forward to the day when I can ride in Alaska and South America.
    • Mountain biking and hiking
      • Just picked this up a couple of years ago. With the many variations of trails around Brush Mountain and Pandapas Pond, I expect to be hitting the trails more often.
    • Ultimate frisbee
      • Another sport/hobby I recently started. It seems that ultimate is the sport of the IT professionals whereas golf is the sport of the CEOs.
    • Any sport that involves being outside and/or active. Except running for the sake of running: running is a punishment.
  • Hanging out at the beach
    • "There's no beach in [New Mexico/Utah]." -- me.
"Actually, there's quite a lot of beach. There's just no water." -- Gus.
  • Traveling
    • I've had the fortunate opportunity to travel throughout the United States, most of western Europe, and New Zealand. There is a great feeling of adventure as I visit another country, state, city, or town for the first time. Looking upon ancient and magnificent structures, untouched and wonderous natural environs, or beautiful and inspiring art simply steals my breath as it is nothing like pictures in magazines or on television.
  • Automobiles
    • Sleek, powerful, and fun to drive. It's my parents' fault.
    • Dream machines: 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO, 1966 Shelby Cobra 427S/C Roadster, 1968 Chevy Camaro Z28, 1957 Chevy Bel Air
  • Photography
    • Amateurish at best, photography is just a way for me to look at the world from a different angle.
  • Talking
    • Friends know that I have something to say about everything.
  • Foundations
