CS 4644 will serve as a project-based capstone class for Fall 2016.
This capstone computer science course resides at the intersection of
arts and technology. According to the official course description,
CS 4644 focuses on "intensive immersion in different approaches to
digital arts such as game design, interactive art, digital music, and
immersive virtual reality."
This course will meet weekly on Fridays 1-3:45. There will be some
smaller individual or team assignments early in the semester, but
primarily students will work in teams to conduct an end-to-end
integrative design project. Projects will be client-based, in teams
of 3-4, with the broad challenge to craft information-rich computational
objects that help to connect co-located people. Example come from domains
like fitness, health and wellness, and gaming, including topics like
step count competitions, common fitness goals, and geo-themed games.
A full list of topics and clients will be posted early in the semester.
A typical class session will involve brief activities or presentations by
student teams followed by groupwork supported by the professor (and possibly
your client). Final deliverables will be a client-approved working design,
a writeup describing your experience and your design, and participation in a
showcase event.
Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in CS 3724.
