Concerning Jerry's list of related usability topics I would like to add a 
reference to a recent workshop I attended with the topic:

"Guiding Users through Interactive Experiences: Usability Centred Design 
and Evaluation of Virtual 3D Environments"

There were quite a few papers on design methodologies and usability issues 
in VE. Although some papers are entitled in German the presentations 
nevertheless have been in English - as will probably be the final publication.
