I'm currently writing on my first paper - it will be about a HMD based 3D geometric construction tool that can be used in mathematic and geometry education. It's based on the "Studierstube", a collaborative augmented reality system (we're using 2 HMDs and the Personal Interaction Panel, a two-handed 3D interaction tool composed of instrumented hand-help props – a pen and a pad equipped with position and orientation trackers). Anyway, I want to ask you if you know papers about 3D modeling VR systems (using HMDs)? Do you even know papers about such systems being used in education? I couldn't find anything yet. I know about 3DM by Butterworth (1992) which is a VR 3d modeling system but I don't know others and nothing that has been used in education. I want to publish in an educational oriented journal and maybe some of you know papers with good evaluation studies proving that VR helps to improve spatial abilities. I've found one from HITL by Osberg (1997). It would be interesting to know which spatial abilities (they are usually splitted in 5 components spatial perception, spatial visualization, mental rotations, spatial relations and spatial orientation) are especially trained in VR and if all of them can be improved and if there are the same effects of VR on men and women (there are sex related differences in spatial abilities). thank you very much in advance, Hannes -- Hannes Kaufmann - mailto:hannes@geometrek.com Vienna University of Technology Geometrek Web3D Solutions, CCO - http://geometrek.com Rename Ltd., Co-Founder - http://rename.com
