Craig M. Wittenbrink, Visual Computing Department Hewlett-Packard Laboratories Program Committee: Georges Grinstein, IVPR, University of Massachusetts at Lowell Dr.-Ing. Hans-Georg Pagendarm, German Aerospace Research Establishment Alex Pang, Computer Science Department, University of California, Santa Cruz Jonathon Roberts, Computing Laboratory, University of Kent at Canterbury Philip Robertson, Canon Information Systems Research Australia Chris Shaw, Department of Computer Science, University of Regina A wide range of interface, display, and computation technologies are now available for users to visualize, explore or interpret data. Commercial interactive visualization tools are available which produce 2D images and animations, 2.5D presentations on stereoscopic displays and 3D presentations in virtual environments and holographic displays. Newer experimental tools and environments have been developed in research laboratories and the authors' experiences and acquired knowledge need to be presented. Visualization is being applied to an ever expanding range of areas and fields. Dissemination of advancements in visualization research and the experiences of this research through a centralized medium is a necessity to advance the current level of understanding of the field as a whole. This two-day conference runs concurrently with many other SPIE and IS&T conferences and exhibits. Papers describing novel interdisciplinary approaches and visualization systems and papers that solve specific applications are welcome. Papers are also solicited which apply visualization to electronic imaging, photonics, medical imaging, the Internet, and to problem areas in different fields. Work in progress papers are acceptable. An extended call for papers and additional information can be found at: http://www.cs.uml.edu/~rerbache/SPIE/SPIE_Conference.html Other appropriate topics include, but are not limited to: * Interactive Virtual Environments Such as, visual representation of sensor, radar, or optical data. Development of modeling and simulation environments. * Case Studies on Systems and Applications. Targeting animation, high performance computing, tools, and multimedia. * Standards, Requirements, and Validation for Visualization Such as uncertainty visualization. * The World Wide Web and Visualization Feasibility studies, working models, tools, and standards. * Alternative Techniques 2-4 Page Extended Abstracts are due from authors June 29, 1998. Early notification of acceptance will be placed on the SPIE Web site the week of 21 September 1998 at www.spie.org/info/ei99_participants.html Paper Review To ensure a high-quality conference, all abstracts and Proceedings of SPIE papers will be reviewed by the Conference Chairs for technical merit and content. Instructions for Submitting Abstracts * All authors are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to submit their abstracts by the due date using the Web form located at URL: www.spie.org/forms/ei99_submission_form.html If World-Wide Web access is not available, please choose only one of the following options and send by the due date: * E-MAIL each abstract separately to: abstracts@spie.org in ASCII text (not encoded) format. IMPORTANT: to ensure receipt and proper processing of your abstract, the Subject line must include only the following: SUBJECT: EI11, ERBACHER, CHEN, WITTENBRINK * or MAIL three copies of your abstract to: IS&T/SPIE EI '99 SPIE, P.O. Box 10, Bellingham, WA 98227-0010 USA Shipping Address: 1000 20th St., Bellingham, WA 98225 USA Telephone 360/676-3290 * or FAX one copy to SPIE at 360/647-1445 (send each abstract separately). Publishing Policy Manuscript due dates must be strictly observed. Whether the conference volume will be published before or after the meeting, late manuscripts run the risk of not being published in the Proceedings of SPIE. The objective of this policy is to better serve the conference participants and the technical community at large. Your cooperation is appreciated by all. Final Summary Accepted authors will receive instructions for submission of the 200- word Final Summary in their author kit. The published Final Summaries will be available at the meeting. Oral or Poster Presentation Accepted authors will receive instructions for Oral and Poster presentations in their author kit. All Oral and Poster presentations are included in the Proceedings of SPIE and require a manuscript. Proceedings of SPIE These conferences will result in volumes published in the Proceedings of SPIE that can be ordered through the Advance Technical Program. Camera-ready manuscripts are required of all accepted applicants and must be submitted in English by 28 December 1998. Copyright to the manuscript is expected to be released for publication in the Proceedings of SPIE. Note: If an author does not attend the meeting and make a presentation, the chair may choose not to publish the author's manuscript in the conference volume. Papers published are indexed in leading scientific databases including INSPEC, Compendex Plus, Physics Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts, International Aerospace Abstracts, and Index to Scientific and Technical Proceedings. Participant Registration Fee Authors and coauthors are accorded a reduced symposium registration fee.
