I refer you to Foley's 1984 (?) paper on human factors of interaction techniques. He describes ALL interaction in terms of a tiny lexicon. Selection is on his list. Unselection (or release) would be implied by this. Manipulation is the combination of what he calls position, orientation, and path. Travel is the same but is a special case involving the viewpoint. This isn't to say that a further breakdown, like what Doug is trying to do, isn't valuable. Only realize you aren't breaking new ground here. At best, you're digging deeper. And you have to be certain that the level of detail in your taxonomy is a known quantity. Otherwise, you stand to confuse the issues. For those unfamiliar with this paper, I highly recommend it. In spite of the novelty of VE systems, I have yet to see anything that falls outside the scope of Foley's categorization. rudy ---------- >From: Mike Rorke >To: 3d-ui@hitl.washington.edu >Subject: System Commands >Date: Sun, Jul 25, 1999, 3:02 AM > > Hi ... > > I have been reading through Doug Bowman's thesis on 'Interaction Techniques > for Comman Tasks in Immersive Virtual Environements'.
