Hi, First, I feel somewhat obliged to reintroduce myself. I earned my Master of Science Degree in Computer Science from Virginia Tech in 1999. Unfortunately, I was leaving just as Doug was interviewing the postion he now holds. I worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for Dr. Ron Kriz at the Virginia Tech CAVE. Our research focus at the time was Teleimmersion. We were interested in what user interfaces might be necessary to support collaboration across networked VEs, how presence affected collaborators' abilities to communicate, etc. When I graduated I went to work for Drs. Cathy Lascara and Glenn Wheless at the ODU Virtual Environments Lab, and this eventually evolved into a private venture with what is now VRCO. I am now working in the mainstream (Windows/PC land) for a company in Virginia Beach, Virginia called Mariah Vision. We do 3D on the web for commerce, engineering, and CBT. I've been quiet on all the research lists for some time, but would like to re-engage as much as time will allow. My personal crusade is to stay focused on technologies that will allow heterogeneous hardware/software platforms to share three dimensional data while allowing each to present the data a manner befitting the platform. ...and now getting to the real subject of this mail... I saw in Wired where Canon was introducing a 3D shutter lens attachment for their XL1 video camera. http://www.canondv.com/xl1/3d_lens/concept.html Has anyone had any pratical experience with anything like this? If it's anything like they say then I'm betting it will really define video teleconferencing in 3D. Regards, Kevin Curry -- Kevin M.
