I am Zachary Wartell, 5th year PhD. student at the GVU Center at Georgia Tech working with Larry Hodges (Doug Bowman's advisor). My research is in VR and interactive 3D graphics (http://www.cc.gatech.edu/home/wartell/). I primarily work with the virtual workbench. My dissertation work concerns analysis/comparison/improvement of the half-dozen or so method's that have been developed to manage image fusion problems on stereoscopic displays. I am interested in displays like the workbench where the display is stationary, attached to desk, tabletop or wall (I call these HTD's, Head- Tracked Displays), as opposed to HMD's where the display is attach to a helmet/headset. My proposal is 99% complete but that last 1% is taking a while since I jumped back into classwork to take some PSYC courses in statistics and design of behavioral experiments. I got a B.S. in CS here at Tech and worked for the Human Interface Technology Center at NCR for 2.5 years in their VR group working on a OO graphics system based on my boss's (Mark Tarlton) thesis. I've also spent a summer with the Naval Research Laboratory's VR group developing a command & control application on the workbench. -Zach
