There's a great deal of work using XML for the representation of 3D scenes taking place under the auspices of the Web3D Consortium. The next generation/version of VRML will be called X3D which among other things has an XML encoding and framework for 3D on the Web. Look at info for the X3D spec and working groups at: http://www.web3d.org Sandy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NAME: Sandy Ressler TELE: (301) 975-3549 USMAIL: National Institute of Standards and Technology FAX: (301) 975-5287 100 Bureau Drive STOP 8940 Gaithersburg, MD 20899-8940 EMAIL: sressler@nist.gov WEB:http://ovrt.nist.gov/people/sressler/sressler.html Open Virtual Reality Testbed: http://ovrt.nist.gov/ -----Original Message----- From: owner-3dui@hitl.washington.edu [mailto:owner-3dui@hitl.washington.edu]On Behalf Of Kevin M Curry Sent: Thursday, October 04, 2001 11:01 PM To: 3dui List; cavernus; Ace Subject: XML anyone? Hi, I just wanted to cast a line out to see if anyone was looking at XML in their architectures. I don't think I've seen anything about it on these lists. I'm particularly interested in the following: 1.. Use of schemas for describing geometries and other multimedia 2.. Use of schemas for dynamically building context sensitive GUIs 3.. Use of XML RPC in visualization, perhaps with respect to CVEs If any of you are interested in a discussion or have some useful information to which you can point me, I'd love to hear from you.
