Subject: Re: Is there any standard in VR?
Not too many interaction standards for VR (or many other application areas)
but there are several standards in the VR field from WEB3D:
http://www.web3d.org/fs_specifications.htm
this mainly means VRML and X3D (part of MPEG-4)
but there are lots of working groups for other areas...
http://www.web3d.org/fs_workinggroups.htm
including H-Anim: http://h-anim.org/ is for Humanoid Animation
They also list some former working groups that looked at
interaction/input.
Then there is IEEE 1278 aka DIS aka IEEE Standard for Distributed
Interactive Simulation
And IEEE 1516 aka HLA High Level Architecture
http://standards.ieee.org/catalog/olis/compsim.html
Then there is VR Standard Inc. which is a commercial venture selling 3d stereo
gear
http://www.vrstandard.com/
As for unoffical standards and toolkits...
Here are some quick refs from Google "interaction toolkit"

I know some of the authors of those are on the list - and the projects they
refer to may be dormant.(dead?)
The Handbook of Virtual Environments had some relevant chapters.

Hi all, I'm currently looking for the
existence of standards in the VE/VR
field. Is there such a thing as a VR standard?
I interested in hardware standards as well as software ones. Specifically,
on the software side, is there any standard yet? Agreed, we have OpenGL,
but
this standard is not directly related to VR. I'm talking about higher-level
standards for user interface and user interaction (IT's). Things like
standard 3D UI toolkits libraries for VR.
Any info / remark / thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
