Using the Virtual Environment Group's VE Hardware

To run an application (SGI) using HMD and/or tracking:
  1. Log on to swift
  2. Make sure that the Fastrak is connected to serial port 2 on the back of swift
  3. Turn on the Fastrak
  4. Get out the tracker receivers you will need
  5. Get out the HMD, power supply, and control box
  6. Run video cable from swift's video out port to the HMD control box LEFT EYE/MONO input
  7. Attach power and HMD to control box
  8. Turn on HMD
  9. Run 'videoout' utility on swift
  10. Verify the video signal to the HMD
  11. If using a joystick, detach the normal mouse cable from the back of swift and attach the joystick mouse cable
  12. Attach trackers to HMD and/or joystick
  13. Verify settings in .sve.init file (all trackers should be set to run on swift)
  14. Run tracker server on swift:
    15. ~vrgroup/sve/v2.0/bin/sgi/server-tracker
  15. Run event/audio servers if necessary
  16. Run your application with the SVE_HMD flag set (usually done with a command line argument)
When done:
  1. Kill all servers:
    2. ~vrgroup/sve/v2.0/bin/kill-servers
  2. Turn off HMD, trackers
  3. Put everything back the way you found it or better
