Subject: [Web-CAT-announce] Calling for Web-CAT recipe authors
Message-ID: <4447AE1E.2060703@cs.vt.edu>

If you haven't visited the Web-CAT wiki lately, it has a new look. Feel free to stop by, and send any comments on the new theme and visual style my way.

You'll notice that in the new theme there are a few tabs along the top, including a new "Docs" tab. It took me a while to get it off the ground, but the Web-CAT documentation has finally started.

The documentation takes the form of a cookbook, and was inspired by a few similar wiki documentation efforts. It is designed to allow multiple authors to contribute small, relatively easy-to- write sections of information in a fairly lightweight way. There is a complete author guide (basically reused from the Schematics Cookbook under the LGPL).

I've populated a handful of the basic recipes for students. Now things are far enough along that I can ask for others to start pitching in. So if you've been using Web-CAT in a class, take a look at the new cookbook. Browse through the author guide (at the bottom of the cookbook). Pick a recipe you like, and start writing it. You can probably knock out a basic recipe in 30 minutes or so. It's all wiki, so don't worry about messing up or only half-way completing something. If you're too busy to do screen shots, just leave placeholders and let me know. Together, we'll be able to get a lot farther than I can alone.

Also, let me know what you think of the cookbook format, and point out things you think won't work well so we can fix them. Thanks!
