Subject: Web-CAT has moved to https/SSL

Now that I've finally been able to get the deparment's official SSL certificate installed under Apache on web-cat.cs.vt.edu, the Web-CAT server has moved over to using https and fully encrypted session traffic. The main login link on the web-cat front page now forwards to the correct https address.

For your assignments (e.g., eclipse-based or bluej-based submission configurations), you'll want to switch from the old, unencrypted port 9000 url:

http://web-cat.cs.vt.edu:9000/cgi-bin/WebObjects.exe/Main.woa/wa/submit...

Instead, use the new https url:

https://web-cat.cs.vt.edu/cgi-bin/WebObjects.exe/Main.woa/wa/submit...

The only change necessary is removing the port number and changing from http to https. Once you make this change, be sure to try out a submission, too. I haven't tried https submissions from either IDE yet to make sure they work :-). If they don't, let me know. The old submission URLs will continue to work, but the authentication information sent as part of the POST request will be unencrypted when using the old URLs.
