Project Ideas and Milestones

 

The following are some project ideas

 

  • Channel assignment techniques in cellular systems
  • WLAN performance and enhancements
  • Unicast routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks
  • Multicast routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks
  • Host Mobility Problem Solutions in IPv4 and IPv6
  • IPv4 Micro-mobility solutions
  • IPv6 Micro-mobility solutions
  • TCP/SCTP performance and improvement techniques in a mobile computing environment
  • Mobile agents

 

 

By all means, the list of project ideas is not limited to the above. A group can suggest their own project idea, but you need to get the instructor’s approval.

 

Project milestones

Description

2/23/2007

Form a project group. A group will consist of 2 students. Select one of the aforementioned project ideas, or suggest your own. Send an email to the instructor stating group members and the project idea selected.

3/8/2007

Submit a one-page project proposal to the instructor. The one-page proposal should address the following topics.

  • An overview of the project (what?)
  • Motivation for your project (why?)
  • Your approach in realizing the project (how?)

3/11/2007

Instructor feedback to your proposal

3/15/2007

Submit a detailed final project proposal to the instructor.

4/18/2007

Submit a progress report to the instructor

4/30/2007and 5/2/2007

Project demo in class time. A presentation will be scheduled for each group as permitted by class time. The presentation will be graded based on organization; clarity; completeness; correctness; and ability to answer questions.

5/7/2007

All project documentation is due.

What to submit?

  • A project report. The project report should address the following topics.

Ø      Motivation

Ø      Background and related work (survey)

ü      An in-depth and in-breadth coverage of your chosen project topic.

Ø      Design and implementation

Ø      Analysis and experimental results

Ø      Lessons learned

Ø      References

  • Project Presentation
  • All relevant source code and documentation
  • Project report should be submitted in print. In addition, all material should be compiled into a single package and submitted.

 

How the project will be graded?
  • Project presentation: 20%
  • Well-written project report and submission package: 40%
  • Project findings and contributions: 40%
