CS 6724: Crowdsourcing and Human Computation Fall 2015 Kurt Luther In this course, we will explore the relative strengths and weaknesses of human and artificial intelligence and how they can most effectively complement each other. We will compare crowdsourcing platforms and toolkits, and discuss design principles for more effective, complex, and creative crowdsourcing and human computation. We will discuss ethical issues surrounding crowd work, including cultural issues, deskilling, and power dynamics. In addition to discussing recent and influential papers in this area, students will develop crowdsourcing applications and deploy them with real crowd workers. Therefore, previous experience with social computing, computer supported cooperative work, and/or web development is highly recommended.
