Requirements For The Final Term Paper
Each student must submit the final term paper. The paper must have a
title page, main content, and references. The paper should be single-column,
1 inch margins, 11-point size, single-spaced, and 10-12
pages, excluding the title page, references and well
marked appendices. The paper should also be written using text editors such as MS Word and Latex.
The proposal should be emailed to me in PDF (preferred) or DOC formats on or
before the last day of class with [CS6204: Term Paper] in the
subject line.
To facilitate the grading of your paper, please follow the
suggested organization listed below.
The title page should include
- the title of the paper
- names, email addresss, and student IDs of team members
- course name, number, and instructor's name
- a maximum 300-word abstract
- three to five keywords
- contributions of each team member
For research papers, the main content of the proposal should
at least include
the following:
- Introduction
- (2 points) Discuss the background and motivation of your
work.
- (2 points) Summarize the research problem
- (2 points) Summarize the proposed approach to the problem
and the results
- Related work
- (3 points) Discuss research related to yours and make
comparison if there are closely related work.
- Your approach
- (6 points) Describe your approach in detail. You may
present your result in any way you want as long as you believe it's
convincing and clear.
- Validation of your approach
- (6 points) Prove or demonstrate the effectiveness and/or
efficiency of your approach. You may do this through theorems,
experiments, etc.
- Conclusions and possible future work
- (2points) Summarize the conclusions of your work. Future
work is optional.
- References
- (1 points) List all the citations referenced in your paper.
You will lose 5 points for each dangling reference (i.e., the reference
not cited in the main text).
- Bonus points
- (10 points) The instructor may give up
to 10 points extra credit to well presented papers with original
contribution.
For survey papers, the main content should include the
following:
- Introduction
- (2 points) Discuss the background
- (2 points) Summarize the surveyed research area and explain
why the surveyed area has been studied.
- (3 points) Summarize the classification scheme you used to
do the survey.
- (2 points) Summarize the surveyed techniques with the above
classification scheme.
- Survey details
- (6 points) Present the surveyed techniques using the
classification scheme in details.
- (3 points) Identify the trends in the surveyed area. Give
evidences for your decision.
- Conclusions and possible future work
- (3 points) Summarize the conclusions of your survey.
- References
- (3 points) List all the citations referenced in your paper.
